Sword-Wielding Man Stabs Boston Police Officer Near Northeastern University
Boston, MA – April 6, 2026 – A Boston Police officer was stabbed by a man armed with a sword near Northeastern University on Saturday morning, authorities confirmed.
The incident occurred around 10:45 a.m. on Hemenway Street. Police responded to a 911 call reporting four individuals with guns threatening a resident outside an apartment. Officers spoke to the caller through the door and requested EMS and a mental health clinician due to signs of a mental health crisis.
When the man opened the door, he wielded a sword, stabbing a police officer in the arm and knocking a clinician to the ground. Other officers used a taser and firearm to subdue the suspect. He received medical attention on scene and was transported to a Boston hospital, where he later died. His identity has not been released.
The injured officer received a tourniquet before hospital transport. Several other officers and two EMS clinicians were also treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Boston EMS emphasized the dangers first responders face, stating: “No one should face violence for simply doing their job.” Police and the Suffolk District Attorney’s Office are investigating, and authorities do not believe the incident is linked to a previous stabbing near the Northeastern University campus.
Officials continue to monitor the situation and are urging the public to remain vigilant in the area.
